Department of Defense Implements Mediware’s® HCLL Transfusion in 60 Facilities

LENEXA, Kan., August 18, 2015 – HCLL Transfusion, an industry-leading blood management and transfusion application from Mediware Information Systems, is now live in all of the 60 Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) for which the Department of Defense (DoD) has contracted. The addition of HCLL to the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) will ensure that the blood products supplied to America’s servicemen and women will be safe and reliable, both within the United States and in MTFs around the world.

The application, known in DoD installations as the Blood Management Blood Bank Transfusion Service (BMBB/TS), will automate the processes for blood test results and transfusions, making HCLL another important step in the military’s efforts to modernize its healthcare systems. The DoD’s selection of HCLL Transfusion was contracted by ThunderCat Technology, which delivers technology services and solutions to the federal government. Planned Systems International (PSI) managed the integration.

“We are pleased that HCLL, our proven blood and transfusion management solution, will contribute to the improved patient care that the military is providing for its personnel and their families,” assured Mediware’s President and CEO Thomas Mann.

About the Armed Services Blood Program

The Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) is the official blood collection, manufacturing and transfusion program for the U.S. military. As a tri-service organization, the ASBP represents all three services—Army, Navy and Air Force—and is tasked with the collection, processing, storage and distribution of blood and blood products to ill or injured service members, veterans and their families worldwide. The program manages blood requests from the five major combatant commands by directing available blood supplies when and where needed.
