Message from Tom Deierlein, CEO of ThunderCat Technology

ThunderCat Technology has always strived to support our communities and be a champion for those in need. As part of these efforts, we are proud to host the 7th Annual ThunderCat Charity Golf Tournament. The purpose of ThunderCat Technology is to make the United States a better and safer place for all Americans. I’d like to personally thank each of you in our federal IT community who have committed to helping us with this charity golf tournament.

Due to the incredible support from our sponsors and the community, we have raised over $658,560 through our previous six tournaments for service members, veterans and their families. Your sponsorship is a pledge to give service members, veterans and their families our full support and share in the responsibility for defending America’s freedom.

This year we are proud to host the 7th Annual ThunderCat Technology Charity Golf Tournament, teaming with Willing Warriors. Willing Warrior’s mission is to provide cost-free retreat stays and programs that positively impact wounded, ill, and injured service members, disabled Veterans, and their families.

Why sponsor?

This is not only a great way to gain visibility for your company, reward your staff, and have a great day with your federal industry colleagues; it’s a pledge to give service members, veterans and their families our full support and share the responsibility for defending America’s freedom.

Willing Warriors

Willing Warriors is dedicated to providing a ‘Home Away From Home’ for wounded, ill, and injured service members, giving back to those who have sacrificed so much for their country. Willing Warriors was born out of a small group’s compassionate effort to host a “taste-of-home” Christmas celebration for service members undergoing treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 2006…. now Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. This initial spark evolved into the establishment of the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run in 2015, offering cost-free retreat stays and over 40 educational and recreational activities to positively impact the lives of wounded, injured, and ill service members and disabled veterans. The original small group of volunteers has grown into a coalition of individuals, small businesses, corporations, churches, and other organizations throughout Northern Virginia.

The heart of Willing Warriors lies in the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run, a flagship program providing a much-needed break for recovering service members and their families. Situated on 37 acres in the scenic foothills of the historic Bull Run Mountains of Northern Virginia, the Retreat offers a peaceful escape where Warriors can relax, reconnect, and revitalize in a home-like setting. The 40+ cost-free educational and recreational activities, including seminars that address the issues of dealing with PTS and TBI, contribute to the emotional and spiritual healing process. Willing Warriors has not only hosted over 1,000 warriors but also continues to grow, with plans for the PenFed Grand Lodge, a facility under construction to expand their impact further. As the average hospital stay for recovering warriors is approximately 300 days, Willing Warriors remains steadfast in its mission to support these heroes and their families throughout their journey of healing and rebuilding.

As part of ThunderCat’s Corporate Gifts & Events Policy, we do not permit any government customer involvement in marketing activities or events where the value of gifts and/or F&B is over $20 per person. This includes happy hours, golf tournaments, and networking receptions among others.

According to the “widely attended gathering” (WAG) exception established in the Federal standards of conduct, 5 U.S.C. 2635.204 (g) when government personnel are offered the opportunity to participate in a golf tournament, discussions that occur during the round of golf are generally limited to those individuals in a foursome. Such seating and playing arrangements hardly offer the opportunity to mingle and discuss topics with a large and diverse group of individuals as required by the WAG criteria.

Thus, government personnel wishing to participate in a golf tournament or other sporting activity in which an individual seat is assigned must pay fair market value for that activity at their own expense, unless another gift exception applies.
